Translation

‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘As, may Allah be pleased with them both, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “There are two traits: no Muslim counts them regularly without entering Paradise. They are easy, yet few people act upon them: after every prayer, glorify Allah ten times, praise Him ten times, and magnify Him ten times.” He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ count them on his hand. He said, “That makes one hundred and fifty on the tongue, but one thousand five hundred on the Scale. When one of you goes to bed, let him glorify, magnify, and praise Allah a hundred times; that makes one hundred on the tongue and one thousand on the Scale. Which of you commits two thousand five hundred sins in a day and a night?” They asked, “How could we fail to count them?” He said, “Satan comes to one of you while he is praying and says, ‘Remember this, remember that,’ until he finishes, and perhaps he does not do it. And Satan comes to him in bed and keeps lulling him to sleep until he falls asleep.” Reported by al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, and al-Nasa’i. In Abu Dawud’s narration the opening is, “Two traits—or two qualities—that no Muslim maintains…” After the mention of one thousand five hundred on the Scale, it specifies: “When he goes to bed, he magnifies Allah thirty-four times, praises Him thirty-three times, and glorifies Him thirty-three times.” Most copies of al-Masabih give the Companion’s name as ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar. Graded Sahih by al-Albani.
