Mishkat al-Masabih 2451

Qatadah reported that it had reached him that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw the new crescent, he would say three times: “A crescent of goodness and guidance! A crescent of goodness and guidance! A crescent of goodness and guidance! I believe in the One who created you.” Then he would say, “Praise belongs to Allah, who has taken away such-and-such a month and brought such-and-such a month.” Reported by Abu Dawud. The hadith was not studied by al-Albani.
