Abu al-Darda’ reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “One of David’s supplications was: ‘O Allah, I ask You for Your love, for the love of those who love You, and for deeds that will bring me to Your love. O Allah, make Your love dearer to me than myself, my property, my family, and cold water.’” Abu al-Darda’ said: Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned David, he would say, “He was the most devoted worshipper among humankind.” Al-Tirmidhi reported it and said, “This is a hasan gharīb hadith.” The hadith was not studied by al-Albani.
