‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Umar reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say: ‘Everything has a polish, and the polish of hearts is the remembrance of God. Nothing saves more from God’s punishment than remembrance of God.’ They asked, ‘Not even fighting in God’s path?’ He replied, ‘Not even a man striking with his sword until it breaks.’ Al-Bayhaqi transmitted it in al-Da‘awat al-Kabir. The Arabic source marks it as not studied by al-Albani.
