The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Seventy thousand (persons) would enter Paradise as one group and among them (there would be people) whom faces would be bright like the moon.
The Excellence of the Seventy Thousand
This hadith from Sahih Muslim 217 describes a magnificent group among the believers who will attain Paradise without reckoning. The number seventy thousand signifies abundance rather than a precise count, indicating a large multitude of righteous believers.
Interpretation of the Bright Faces
The description of faces shining like the moon refers to the spiritual luminosity and purity these believers attained through their sincere faith and righteous deeds. This radiance reflects their inner state of devotion and closeness to Allah.
Scholars explain this brightness as a manifestation of the light (nur) of faith that illuminated their hearts and consequently reflected upon their countenances, both in this world and the Hereafter.
Characteristics of This Blessed Group
According to other narrations, these are those who did not seek ruqya (healing through Qur'an), did not believe in bad omens, and did not use cauterization for healing - placing their complete trust in Allah alone.
They represent the highest level of tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and purity of faith, having removed all traces of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and superstition from their hearts.
Spiritual Lessons
This narration encourages believers to purify their faith from all forms of hidden shirk and to develop complete reliance upon Allah in all matters.
It demonstrates Allah's immense mercy and the lofty stations attainable through sincere faith and trust in the Divine Decree.
