حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى الْعَنَزِيُّ - وَاللَّفْظُ لاِبْنِ نُمَيْرٍ - قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ لَمَّا قَدِمْتُ نَجْرَانَ سَأَلُونِي فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ يَا أُخْتَ هَارُونَ وَمُوسَى قَبْلَ عِيسَى بِكَذَا وَكَذَا . فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ " إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَمُّونَ بِأَنْبِيَائِهِمْ وَالصَّالِحِينَ قَبْلَهُمْ " .
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shayba, Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Numayr, Abu Said al-Ashajj, and Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna al-Anazi narrated to us; this wording is transmitted by Ibn Numayr. They said: Ibn Idris narrated to us from his father, from Simak ibn Harb, from Alqama ibn Wail, from al-Mughira ibn Shuba, who said: When I came to Najran, they asked me about your recitation of the words “O sister of Aaron,” although Moses came before Jesus by such-and-such. When I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I asked him about that. He said: “They used to name people after their prophets and righteous people who came before them.”
