Hadith Text
There is a time on Friday at which no Muslim would stand and pray and beg Allah for what is good but He would give it to him; and he pointed with his hand that (this time) is short and narrow.
Commentary on the Special Hour
This blessed hour is a divine mercy wherein Allah's response to supplication is guaranteed. The Prophet's gesture indicates its brevity, requiring believers to be vigilant in seeking it. Scholars differ on its exact timing: some hold it occurs after Asr prayer, while others maintain it coincides with the khutbah or the period between the two sermons. The wisdom in its concealment encourages increased worship throughout Friday.
Juridical Rulings
The standing mentioned refers to devotion in prayer, not merely physical posture. The hadith establishes the superiority of Friday over other days. It is recommended to increase supplication throughout Friday, particularly during the suspected periods. The condition of being "Muslim" excludes those persisting in major sins without repentance.
Spiritual Benefits
This hour represents Allah's special generosity, teaching believers the value of precise moments in worship. The restriction to "what is good" ensures divine wisdom in granting requests. The time's brevity cultivates spiritual attentiveness and consistency in remembrance throughout the day rather than limiting devotion to one moment.
