Hadith Text
"There is a time on Friday at which no Muslim would ask Allah for what is good but He would give it to him." And further said: "This is a very short time."
Commentary on the Special Hour
This blessed hour is a designated period on Friday when divine acceptance is most assured. The scholars differ regarding its precise timing, with the most authentic opinions being that it occurs either during the final hour after Asr prayer until sunset, or during the time when the imam is delivering the khutbah until the prayer concludes.
The emphasis on its brevity indicates the importance of vigilance and spiritual presence. This moment is likened to the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr) in its spiritual significance, though occurring weekly. The believer should engage in sincere supplication, seeking both worldly and spiritual goodness, with certainty that Allah will respond favorably to those who approach Him with pure hearts and legitimate requests.
Scholarly Interpretations
Imam an-Nawawi states this hour represents Allah's special mercy, encouraging believers to increase their devotion and supplication on Fridays. The condition is that the request must be for permissible good - Allah will either grant it immediately, substitute something better, or avert harm equivalent to the request.
Ibn al-Qayyim emphasizes that this time's exact concealment motivates Muslims to worship throughout Friday, increasing their spiritual engagement. The most preferred supplications include seeking forgiveness, guidance, and protection from Hellfire.
