Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu ‘Abd Allah al-Jadali—whose name was ‘Abd ibn ‘Abd—from ‘A’ishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was neither foul-mouthed nor one who spoke obscenely, nor loud and clamorous in the markets. He did not repay a bad deed with another bad deed; rather, he pardoned and overlooked.

The full chain is included, including the source’s identification of Abu ‘Abd Allah al-Jadali by his name, ‘Abd ibn ‘Abd.
The paired Arabic terms deny both being indecent and deliberately speaking obscenely; the English witness’s “profligate” does not convey this distinction. The translation follows the Arabic.
