‘Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was the most generous of humankind in charity, and he was at his most charitable in the month of Ramadan, until it was concluded. Gabriel would then come to him and present the Qur’an to him, and when Gabriel met him, Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was more generous in charity than the winds sent with showering rain.”
Exposition of Generosity
The Prophet's generosity was comprehensive, encompassing wealth, knowledge, time, and spiritual counsel. His charity was not merely material but included every form of benevolence toward creation.
Ramadan's Spiritual Amplification
During Ramadan, his generosity intensified through increased connection with divine revelation. Gabriel's review of the Qur'an with him elevated his spiritual state, making his charity flow like uncontrollable winds bringing universal benefit.
Metaphor of Beneficial Winds
The comparison to "winds sent with showering rain" signifies charity that reaches all without discrimination, brings spiritual revival, and sustains both apparent and hidden needs of the community.
Pedagogical Dimension
This narration teaches that proximity to revelation increases generosity, that Ramadan is the optimal time for charity, and that true generosity imitates the Prophet's example of giving without hesitation or expectation.
