Harun ibn Musa ibn Abi ‘Alqamah al-Madani narrated to us: My father narrated to me, from Hisham ibn Sa‘d, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, that a man came to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and asked him to give him something. The Prophet said, “I have nothing with me, but make a purchase on my account; when something comes to me, I will pay it.” ‘Umar said, “Messenger of Allah, I have given it to him, so Allah has not charged you with what you cannot manage.” The Prophet disliked what ‘Umar said. A man from the Ansar said, “Messenger of Allah, spend, and do not fear scarcity from the Lord of the Throne.” The Messenger of Allah smiled, and gladness could be seen in his face at the Ansari’s words. Then he said, “This is what I have been commanded to do.”
