حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي حَفْصَةُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، كَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ حِينَ يَطْلُعُ الْفَجْرُ وَيُنَادِي الْمُنَادِي، قَالَ أَيُّوبُ: وَأُرَاهُ، قَالَ: خَفِيفَتَيْنِ.

Ahmad ibn Mani' related to us: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim related to us: Ayyub related to us, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar, who said: Hafsah told me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray two rak'ahs when dawn was rising and the caller was making the call. Ayyub said: I think he said, ‘brief.’
