حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ، عَنْ مَوْلَى، عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِي أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِي، أَرْسَلَهُ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ يَسْتَأْذِنُهُ عَلَى أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ حَاجَتِهِ سَأَلَ الْمَوْلَى عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِي عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهَانَا أَنْ نَدْخُلَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ . وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو وَجَابِرٍ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .

Dhakwan reported from the freedman of ‘Amr ibn al-‘As: ‘Amr ibn al-‘As sent him to ‘Ali to seek permission to visit Asma’ bint ‘Umays. ‘Ali gave him permission. After he had finished what he needed, the freedman asked ‘Amr ibn al-‘As about it. ‘Amr said, “Allah’s Messenger forbade us from entering upon women without their husbands’ permission.”’
There are reports on this topic from ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir, ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr, and Jabir. Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.

The source reports that ‘Ali granted permission to the freedman to visit Asma’ bint ‘Umays, then ‘Amr ibn al-‘As cited the Prophet’s prohibition on visiting women without their husbands’ permission.
