Abu Hurayrah reported that Allah’s Messenger said: ‘The perfume of men is that whose scent is noticeable and whose color is not apparent; the perfume of women is that whose color is apparent and whose scent is not noticeable.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic chain includes an unnamed transmitter between Abu Nadr and Abu Hurayrah. The English witness adds an explanatory note about wearing fragrance outside the home and before one’s husband; that note is not part of the Arabic source text and is not included in the translation.
