Rafi‘ ibn Ishaq reported to Ishaq ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Talhah: ‘Abd Allah ibn Abi Talhah and I visited Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri while he was ill. Abu Sa‘id said, “Allah’s Messenger informed us that the angels do not enter a house containing statues—or images.”’ Ishaq was unsure which of the two words Abu Sa‘id used.
Abu ‘Isa said: This is a hasan sahih hadith.

The narrator explicitly hesitates between tamathil (statues/figures) and surah (image); both alternatives are retained.
