‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr reported that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘Allah detests the man who speaks in an affected, florid manner, twisting his tongue as a cow twists its tongue.’ A report from Sa‘d is also cited on this topic.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The expression yatakhallalu bi-lisanihi is an image of moving or twisting the tongue around like a cow; the English witness paraphrases this as excessive speech and slapping the tongue. Abu ‘Isa graded this hadith hasan gharib through this route.
