Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.
Sa‘id ibn Ya‘qub al-Talaqani narrated to us: al-Mu‘tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, saying: I heard my father narrate, from Hanash, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever takes an orphan into his care among the Muslims and provides him with food and drink, Allah will most certainly admit him to Paradise, unless he commits a sin that will not be forgiven.”
There are also reports on this topic from Murrah al-Fihri, Abu Hurayrah, Abu Umamah, and Sahl ibn Sa‘d. Abu ‘Isa said: Hanash is Husayn ibn Qays, also known as Abu ‘Ali al-Rahabi. Sulayman al-Taymi identifies him as Hanash; he is considered weak by hadith scholars.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic states a categorical promise of entry into Paradise with an exception for an unforgiven sin. It then identifies Hanash and records his weakness according to hadith scholars; this critical qualification is absent from the English witness.
The Arabic conditions the promise on there being no unforgiven sin; the witness’s wording is awkward but conveys an exception.
Should the exception remain rendered as ‘unless he commits a sin that will not be forgiven’?
The witness omits all transmitters in the Arabic isnad.
Should the complete chain be included in the translated record?
The Arabic identifies Hanash and explicitly records that he is weak according to hadith scholars; the witness omits this evaluation.
Should this narrator criticism be included alongside the report?
