Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Ahmad ibn Muhammad narrated to me: ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak informed us: Yahya ibn ‘Ubayd Allah informed us, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Each of you is a mirror for his brother. If he sees something harmful on him, let him remove it from him.”

Abu ‘Isa said: Shu‘bah regarded Yahya ibn ‘Ubayd Allah as weak. There is also a report on this topic from Anas.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic says to remove the harmful thing seen on one’s brother, retaining the mirror metaphor. The compiler notes that Shu‘bah weakened Yahya ibn ‘Ubayd Allah.

  • حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ،

The English witness omits all transmitters in the source chain.

Should the complete isnad be retained in the English translation?

  • ‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى وَيَحْيَى بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ضَعَّفَهُ شُعْبَةُ ‏.

The compiler states that Shu‘bah weakened Yahya ibn ‘Ubayd Allah; the English witness omits this narrator criticism.

Should this evaluation remain directly attached to the hadith record?

  • ‏ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ‏.

The Arabic mentions a related report from Anas, absent from the witness.

Should the corroborating report note be included?
