Hannad narrated to us: Abu Mu‘awiyah narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said: The Prophet ﷺ said: “Satan has despaired of being worshipped by those who pray, but he still seeks to stir up discord among them.”
There are also reports on this topic from Anas and from Sulayman ibn ‘Amr ibn al-Ahwas, from his father. Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan. Abu Sufyan’s name was Talhah ibn Nafi‘.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic contrasts Satan’s despair of being worshipped by those who pray with his continuing effort to provoke discord among them. Abu Sufyan is identified by his personal name in the compiler’s note.
The Arabic says Satan has despaired of being worshipped by those who pray, but continues to provoke conflict among them.
Should ‘stir up discord’ be used for التحريش بينهما?
