Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Ahmad ibn Mani‘ narrated to us: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, from Hammam ibn Yahya, from Farqad al-Sabakhi, from Murrah al-Tayyib, from Abu Bakr, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “One who mistreats those under his authority will not enter Paradise.”

Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is gharib. Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani and several others criticized Farqad al-Sabakhi on account of his memory.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic phrase سيئ الملكة refers to poor or harmful treatment of people under one’s authority; the report does not specify them as a narrower group. The source also notes criticism of Farqad al-Sabakhi’s memory.

The Arabic says one who is bad in treatment/management will not enter Paradise; the witness specifically identifies the group as slaves, which the Arabic wording here does not do.

Should the rendering remain broad as ‘those under his authority’?

The witness omits the transmission chain before Abu Bakr.

Should the complete isnad be retained?

The compiler says Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani and others criticized Farqad al-Sabakhi because of his memory; this is absent from the witness.

Should this narrator evaluation remain attached to the report?
