Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Nasr ibn ‘Ali al-Jahdami narrated to us: ‘Amir ibn Abi ‘Amir al-Khazzaz narrated to us: Ayyub ibn Musa narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A father gives his child no gift better than good manners.”

Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is gharib; we know it only through the narration of ‘Amir ibn Abi ‘Amir al-Khazzaz, whose name is ‘Amir ibn Salih ibn Rustum al-Khazzaz. Ayyub ibn Musa is the son of ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id ibn al-‘As. In my view, this hadith is mursal.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The compiler both calls the report gharib and states that in his view it is mursal. The biographical identifications of ‘Amir and Ayyub are included as stated.

The source identifies ‘Amir ibn Abi ‘Amir al-Khazzaz as ‘Amir ibn Salih ibn Rustum al-Khazzaz, and states Ayyub ibn Musa’s lineage.

Should both biographical clarifications remain in the translated block?

Abu ‘Isa says ‘in my view’ this report is mursal, distinguishing his assessment from the earlier gharib label.

Should both the source-route classification and Abu ‘Isa’s own mursal assessment be retained?

The witness omits the chain and all compiler comments.

Should the chain and source-critical notes be included?
