Qutaybah narrated to us: al-Munkadir ibn Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir narrated to us, from his father, from Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Every good deed is charity. Among good deeds is meeting your brother with a cheerful face and pouring what remains in your bucket into your brother’s vessel.”
There is also a report on this topic from Abu Dharr. Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic uses ma‘ruf, a recognized good or kind act, and describes a cheerful face and sharing water from one’s bucket.
Ma‘ruf refers broadly to recognized good or kind acts; the English uses ‘good deed’ and preserves the charity analogy.
Should ma‘ruf be rendered as ‘good deed’ or ‘kind act’ here?
The witness omits the full chain from Qutaybah to Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah.
Should the chain be retained in the English record?
The Arabic names Abu Dharr as a related narrator and grades the hadith hasan; the witness omits both notes.
Should these compiler notes be included?
