Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us: Hisham narrated to us, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, from Samurah ibn Jundab, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not invoke Allah’s curse, His anger, or the Fire upon one another.”

There are also reports on this topic from Ibn ‘Abbas, Abu Hurayrah, Ibn ‘Umar, and ‘Imran ibn Husayn. Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic verb is reciprocal: do not call down curses upon one another using Allah’s curse, His anger, or the Fire.

The Arabic says not to curse one another with Allah’s curse, His anger, or the Fire; the witness says ‘curse yourselves’.

Should this be corrected to the reciprocal ‘one another’?

The witness omits the Arabic chain before Samurah ibn Jundab.

Should the full isnad be retained?

The Arabic gives four related narrators and a hasan sahih grade, omitted from the witness.

Should these compiler notes be included?
