‘Abd ibn Humayd narrated to us: Qabisah narrated to us, from Sufyan, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn An‘um, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “No supplication is answered more swiftly than a supplication made by someone absent for someone absent.”
Abu ‘Isa said: We know this hadith only through this route, and it is gharib. Al-Ifriqi is considered weak in hadith; he is ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn An‘um. ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid is Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The matn says literally “a supplication of an absent person for an absent person”; the chapter title frames the report as a brother supplicating for his brother in his absence. Abu ‘Isa identifies two narrators and notes al-Ifriqi’s weakness.
The concise Arabic phrase دعوة غائب لغائب describes an absent person supplicating for another absent person; the chapter title supplies the brotherly context, but the matn itself does not say “brother.”
Should the matn remain general while the brotherly context stays in the chapter title?
Abu ‘Isa says this route is the only one known to him and classifies the report as gharib.
Should both the route limitation and classification be included?
The closing note says al-Ifriqi is weak in hadith, identifies him as ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn An‘um, and identifies ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid as Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli.
Are these narrator identifications and the weakness note preserved accurately?
