Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

‘Ali ibn Hujr narrated to us: ‘Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq, from al-Nu‘man ibn Sa‘d, from ‘Ali, who said that the Prophet ﷺ said: “In Paradise are chambers whose exteriors can be seen from their interiors, and whose interiors can be seen from their exteriors.” A Bedouin stood and asked, “For whom are they, Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “For those who speak kindly, feed others, fast regularly, and pray to Allah at night while people are asleep.”

Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is gharib; we know it only through the narration of ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq. Some hadith scholars criticized this ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq for his retention. He was Kufan. The other ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq, the Qurashi from Madinah, is more reliable than this one; both lived in the same era.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • Abu ‘Isa distinguishes the Kufan ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq in this chain from a more reliable Qurashi Medinan narrator with the same name.

The image of the chambers states that each side is visible from the other; the relation is expressed symmetrically.

Does “exteriors … interiors” preserve the reciprocal image without implying transparent walls beyond the wording?

Abu ‘Isa distinguishes the Kufan transmitter from another ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq, Qurashi and Medinan, said to be more reliable.

Is the distinction between these same-named narrators clear enough to prevent conflation?

The final note says both same-named narrators were in one era.

Does “both lived in the same era” retain the source’s statement without implying they were identical?
