Ibn Abi ‘Umar narrated to us: Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Suqah, from Abu Bakr ibn Hafs ibn ‘Umar, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), with a similar report, but this route does not mention “from Ibn ‘Umar.” This is sounder than the report of Abu Mu‘awiyah. Abu Bakr ibn Hafs was the son of ‘Umar ibn Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The witness begins with Abu Bakr ibn Hafs and omits the chain preceding him. The Arabic explicitly identifies him as the son of Umar ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas.
