حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ جَدِّي، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ أَكْثَرِ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّاسَ الْجَنَّةَ فَقَالَ " تَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَحُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ " . وَسُئِلَ عَنْ أَكْثَرِ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّاسَ النَّارَ فَقَالَ " الْفَمُ وَالْفَرْجُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ هُوَ ابْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَوْدِيُّ .

Abu Kurayb—Muhammad ibn al-‘Ala’—narrated to us: ‘Abd Allah ibn Idris narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, from my grandfather, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked what most commonly brings people into Paradise, and he replied: “Mindfulness of Allah and good character.” He was asked what most commonly brings people into the Fire, and he replied: “The mouth and the private parts.” Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is sahih gharib. ‘Abd Allah ibn Idris is Ibn Yazid ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Awdi.

Taqwa is a broad religious concept often rendered as mindfulness or God-consciousness.
Does “mindfulness of Allah” convey the term without reducing it to fear alone?
