Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Muhammad ibn Bashshar and al-Husayn ibn Abi Kabshah al-Basri narrated to us, both saying: Yusuf ibn Ya‘qub al-Sadusi narrated to us: Abu Sinan al-Qas mali—the Syrian—narrated to us, from ‘Uthman ibn Abi Sawdah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever visits a sick person or visits a brother for Allah’s sake, a caller proclaims: ‘You are blessed, your steps are blessed, and you have secured a dwelling in Paradise.’” Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan gharib. Abu Sinan’s name is ‘Isa ibn Sinan. Hammad ibn Salamah also narrated from Thabit, from Abu Rafi‘, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, part of this report.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The final sentence notes a partial parallel route, not a complete alternate wording of the whole report.

  • قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ مَنْ عَادَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ زَارَ أَخًا لَهُ فِي اللَّهِ نَادَاهُ مُنَادٍ أَنْ طِبْتَ وَطَابَ مَمْشَاكَ وَتَبَوَّأْتَ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ مَنْزِلاً ‏" ‏ ‏.

The caller’s Arabic blessing says ṭibta, ṭāba mamshāka, and tabawwa’ta min al-jannati manzilan; the English witness’s “livelihood” and “adobe” are not supported by these words.

Does “you are blessed, your steps are blessed, and you have secured a dwelling in Paradise” preserve the three phrases?

  • ‏ وَقَدْ رَوَى حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم شَيْئًا مِنْ هَذَا ‏.

The source says another chain transmitted “something of this,” which does not claim to reproduce the whole wording.

Is the parallel transmission described as partial rather than as a full equivalent report?
