Nasr ibn ‘Ali al-Jahdami narrated to us: Nuh ibn Qays narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Imran, from ‘Asim al-Ahwal, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sarjis al-Muzani, that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Good bearing, deliberateness, and moderation are one of the twenty-four parts of prophethood.” A report on this topic is also related from Ibn ‘Abbas. This hadith is hasan gharib.
Qutaybah narrated to us: Nuh ibn Qays narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Imran, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sarjis, from the Prophet ﷺ, with a similar wording, but without mentioning ‘Asim. The sound version is the hadith of Nasr ibn ‘Ali.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
Rendered al-samt al-hasan as “good bearing”; the source also has deliberateness and moderation. The second isnad omits ‘Asim and is explicitly judged less sound than the Nasr ibn ‘Ali route.
Al-samt al-hasan can refer to good bearing or comportment; the other two terms denote deliberateness and moderation.
Does “good bearing” preserve the first quality without collapsing it into the other two?
The Qutaybah route omits ‘Asim and the source explicitly says the correct report is that of Nasr ibn ‘Ali.
Are the omitted transmitter and the compiler’s preference both clearly retained?
