Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bazi‘ narrated to us: Bishr ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, from Qurrah ibn Khalid, from Abu Jamrah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, that the Prophet ﷺ said to al-Ashajj of ‘Abd al-Qays: “You have two qualities that Allah loves: forbearance and deliberateness.” Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih gharib. A report on this topic is also related from al-Ashajj al-‘Asari.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
Rendered al-hilm as forbearance and al-anah as deliberateness/patience in acting. The source cites al-Ashajj al-‘Asari as a related report without explaining his relation to the named al-Ashajj of ‘Abd al-Qays.
وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ الأَشَجِّ الْعَصَرِيِّ .
The additional report is attributed to al-Ashajj al-‘Asari, while the matn addresses al-Ashajj of ‘Abd al-Qays; the source does not clarify the identity relation.
Should the related-report attribution remain distinct without assuming whether the two labels identify the same person?
