Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Qutaybah narrated to us: Ja‘far ibn Sulayman al-Duba‘i narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas, who said: “I served the Prophet ﷺ for ten years, and he never once said ‘Uff’ to me. He never said about anything I had done, ‘Why did you do that?’ nor about anything I had left undone, ‘Why did you not do that?’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had the finest character among people.

“I never touched khazz, silk, or anything softer than the palm of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I never smelled musk or any perfume more fragrant than the Prophet’s ﷺ sweat.” Abu ‘Isa said: Reports on this topic are also related from ‘A’ishah and al-Bara’. This hadith is hasan sahih.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • Khazz is left transliterated because the source names a textile whose precise composition is not explained in this block. The repeated “never” is retained.

Khazz is a named textile, but its composition is not defined in the source block; the comparison says neither it nor silk was ever touched.

Should khazz remain transliterated rather than be assigned a specific material?

The report says no perfume was more fragrant than the Prophet’s sweat; this is a direct sensory comparison in Anas’s testimony.

Does the translation retain the comparison as stated without embellishing its meaning?
