Abu Hisham al-Rifa‘i narrated to us: Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, from Hisham ibn ‘Urwah, from his father, from ‘A’ishah, who said: “I was never as jealous of any of the Prophet’s wives as I was of Khadijah, though I had never met her. That was only because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke of her so often. Whenever he slaughtered a sheep, he would seek out Khadijah’s female friends and send them some of its meat.” Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan gharib sahih.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • ‘A’ishah’s wording says she had not met Khadijah; the source attributes her jealousy to the Prophet’s frequent mention and his gifts to Khadijah’s friends.

The phrase وما بي أن أكون أدركتها indicates she had not encountered Khadijah; the next clause names remembrance and gifts as the reasons for her jealousy.

Does “though I had never met her” preserve the contrast without implying the jealousy came from personal acquaintance?
