Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.
Qutaybah narrated to us: ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Suhayl ibn Abi Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The gates of Paradise are opened on Mondays and Thursdays, and everyone who does not associate anything with Allah is forgiven, except for two people who have cut off relations with each other. It is said: ‘Leave these two until they reconcile.’” Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih. Another version says: “Let these two be until they reconcile.” He explained that al-muhtajirayn means two people who have severed relations with each other. This is like the report from the Prophet ﷺ: “It is not lawful for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three days.”
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The compiler gives both a variant wording of the instruction and an explicit gloss of the two people as those who have severed relations.
The report says forgiveness occurs on the two named days except for the two mutually estranged people, whose case is deferred until reconciliation.
Does the translation preserve the exception and reconciliation condition without implying that their forgiveness is permanently denied?
Another narration uses ذروا instead of ردوا; the compiler gives the variant but does not explain a doctrinal difference.
Is the variant translated neutrally as another wording?
