حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْكُوفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قَطَنٍ، عَنْ حَمْزَةَ الزَّيَّاتِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ أُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ إِذَا ذَكَرَ أَحَدًا فَدَعَا لَهُ بَدَأَ بِنَفْسِهِ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ صَحِيحٌ وَأَبُو قَطَنٍ اسْمُهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ .

Nasr ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Kufi narrated to us: Abu Qatan narrated to us, from Hamzah al-Zayyat, from Abu Ishaq, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas, from Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, that whenever the Messenger of Allah mentioned someone and supplicated for him, he would begin with himself. Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan gharib sahih. Abu Qatan’s name was ‘Amr ibn al-Haytham.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic says that when the Prophet mentioned someone and prayed for that person, he began by praying for himself. The compiler identifies Abu Qatan by name.
