Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us; Abu Dawud al-Hafari narrated to us, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from ‘Amr ibn Murrah, from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Harith, from Tulayq ibn Qays, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: ‘My Lord, help me and do not help others against me; grant me victory and do not grant victory over me; devise for me and do not devise against me; guide me and make guidance easy for me; and grant me victory over those who transgress against me. My Lord, make me ever grateful to You, ever mindful of You, in awe of You, obedient to You, humble before You, fervently devoted to You, and always returning to You. My Lord, accept my repentance, wash away my sin, answer my supplication, make my proof firm, set my tongue aright, guide my heart, and draw out the rancor from my breast.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This is a hasan sahih hadith.’ Mahmud ibn Ghaylan said: Muhammad ibn Bishr al-‘Abdi narrated to us, from Sufyan al-Thawri, with a similar chain and report.
