Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us; Abu ‘Amir al-‘Aqadi narrated to us; Zuhayr—namely, Ibn Muhammad—narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Aqil. Mu‘adh ibn Rifa‘ah informed him from his father, who said: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq stood on the pulpit and wept, then said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the pulpit in the first year and wept, then said: ‘Ask Allah for pardon and well-being, for no one is given anything better than well-being after certainty.’ He said: ‘This is a hasan gharib hadith through this route from Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him).’
