حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بَكَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عُفَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا دَوْسٍ الْيَحْصُبِيَّ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَائِذٍ الْيَحْصُبِيِّ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ زَعْكَرَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ إِنَّ عَبْدِي كُلَّ عَبْدِي الَّذِي يَذْكُرُنِي وَهُوَ مُلاَقٍ قِرْنَهُ " . يَعْنِي عِنْدَ الْقِتَالِ . قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ إِلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ لَيْسَ إِسْنَادُهُ بِالْقَوِيِّ . - وَلاَ نَعْرِفُ لِعُمَارَةَ بْنِ زَعْكَرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلاَّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ الْوَاحِدَ . وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ وَهُوَ مُلاَقٍ قِرْنَهُ . إِنَّمَا يَعْنِي عِنْدَ الْقِتَالِ يَعْنِي أَنْ يَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ .

Abu al-Walid al-Dimashqi, Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Bakkar, narrated to us: al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, from ‘Ufayr ibn Ma‘dan, who heard Abu Daws al-Yahsubi narrating from Ibn ‘A’idh al-Yahsubi, from ‘Umarah ibn Za‘karah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Allah, Mighty and Sublime, says: “My servant—indeed, My servant in full—is the one who remembers Me while facing his opponent,” meaning during battle.’ Abu ‘Isa said: This is a gharib hadith; we know it only through this route, and its chain is not strong. We know no other hadith from ‘Umarah ibn Za‘karah from the Prophet ﷺ. The meaning of ‘while facing his opponent’ is during battle: that he remembers Allah at that moment.

قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ إِلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ لَيْسَ إِسْنَادُهُ بِالْقَوِيِّ .
The English witness omits the compiler’s judgment that the chain is weak and his note that this is the only known Prophetic report from ‘Umarah ibn Za‘karah.
