حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُونُسَ الْكُوفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، رضى الله عنه قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لاَ يَنَامُ حَتَّى يَقْرَأَ بِتَنْزِيلَ السَّجْدَةِ وَبِتَبَارَكَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَكَذَا رَوَى سُفْيَانُ وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَحْوَهُ . وَرَوَى زُهَيْرٌ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ مِنْ جَابِرٍ إِنَّمَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ صَفْوَانَ أَوِ ابْنِ صَفْوَانَ . وَرَوَى شَبَابَةُ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ لَيْثٍ .

Hisham ibn Yunus al-Kufi narrated to us: al-Muharibi narrated to us, from Layth, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: ‘The Prophet would not sleep until he recited “The Sending Down” (Surah al-Sajdah, 32) and “Blessed is He” (Surah al-Mulk, 67).’ Abu ‘Isa said: Sufyan and more than one other narrator transmitted a similar hadith from Layth, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, from the Prophet. Zuhayr narrated this hadith from Abu al-Zubayr, saying: I asked him, ‘Did you hear it from Jabir?’ He replied, ‘I did not hear it from Jabir; I heard it only from Safwan or Ibn Safwan.’ Shababah narrated from Mughira ibn Muslim, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, something similar to Layth’s hadith.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The compiler notes a chain discrepancy: although several routes attribute the report to Jabir, Abu al-Zubayr said he did not hear it from Jabir and instead heard it from Safwan or Ibn Safwan. The report names the two surahs by their opening phrases.
