Ishaq ibn Mansur informed us: al-Nadr ibn Shumayl, Wahb ibn Jarir, Abu ‘Amir al-‘Aqadi, and ‘Abd al-Samad ibn ‘Abd al-Warith informed us: Hisham al-Dastawa’i narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salamah, who said: Rabi‘ah ibn Ka‘b al-Aslami narrated to me: ‘I used to spend the night at the door of the Prophet and bring him water for ablution. Late into the night I would hear him say, “Allah hears whoever praises Him.” Late into the night I would hear him say, “Praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds.”’ Abu ‘Isa said: This hadith is hasan sahih.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic repeats that Rabi‘ah heard each phrase during the night. The first is the familiar prayer phrase ‘Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah’; the second is Qur’anic praise, ‘Praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds.’
