Sufyan ibn Waki‘ narrated to us; Isma‘il ibn Muhammad ibn Juhadah narrated to us; ‘Abd al-Jabbar ibn ‘Abbas narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Agharr Abu Muslim, who said: I testify that Abu Sa‘id and Abu Hurayrah testified that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Whoever says, “There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest,” his Lord affirms his words and says, “There is no god but Me, and I am the Greatest.” When he says, “There is no god but Allah alone,” Allah says, “There is no god but Me; I am alone.” When he says, “There is no god but Allah alone, without partner,” Allah says, “There is no god but Me alone; I have no partner.” When he says, “There is no god but Allah; to Him belongs sovereignty and praise,” Allah says, “There is no god but Me; sovereignty and praise belong to Me.” When he says, “There is no god but Allah, and there is no might or power except through Allah,” Allah says, “There is no god but Me, and there is no might or power except through Me.”’ He would say: ‘Whoever says this during his illness and then dies, the Fire will not consume him.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This is a hasan gharib hadith. Shu‘bah also narrated it from Abu Ishaq, from al-Agharr Abu Muslim, from Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa‘id, with similar wording and meaning, but Shu‘bah did not attribute it to the Prophet. Bundar narrated this to us; Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, from Shu‘bah, with this chain.’

The Arabic records a variant route from Shu‘bah with similar meaning that Shu‘bah did not attribute to the Prophet; the supplied witness omits this and the subsequent transmission chain.

Should this variant attribution distinction be retained with the report?
