Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn Abi al-Safar al-Kufi—whose name was Ahmad ibn ‘Abdullah al-Hamdani—narrated to us; Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Ibn Jurayj said: Musa ibn ‘Uqbah informed me, from Suhayl ibn Abi Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Whoever sits in a gathering where much idle, clamorous talk occurs, then before getting up from that gathering says, “Glory and praise be to You, O Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You,” will be forgiven for what occurred in that gathering.’ There are reports on this subject from Abu Barzah and ‘Aishah. He said: ‘This is a hasan gharib sahih hadith through this route. We know the report of Suhayl only through this route.’
