حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، أَنْبَأَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الرَّبِيعَ بْنَ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ إِذَا قَدِمَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ قَالَ " آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ . وَرَوَى الثَّوْرِيُّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ الْبَرَاءِ وَرِوَايَةُ شُعْبَةَ أَصَحُّ . قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ وَأَنَسٍ وَجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ .

Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us; Abu Dawud narrated to us; Shu‘bah informed us, from Abu Ishaq, who said: I heard al-Rabi‘ ibn al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib narrate from his father that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from a journey, he would say: ‘We return, repentant, worshipping our Lord, and praising Him.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This is a hasan sahih hadith. Al-Thawri narrated this hadith from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara’, without mentioning al-Rabi‘ ibn al-Bara’; Shu‘bah’s narration is more sound. There are also reports on this subject from Ibn ‘Umar, Anas, and Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah.’’

The Arabic notes an alternate chain and prefers Shu‘bah's transmission; the English witness omits this along with related reports.
