Qutaybah ibn Sa‘id narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us, from al-Khalil ibn Murrah, from al-Azhar ibn ‘Abdullah, from Tamim al-Dari, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: ‘Whoever says ten times, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner; the One God, the Unique, the Self-Sufficient, who has taken neither consort nor child, and for whom there is no equal,” Allah will record for him forty million good deeds.’ He said: ‘This is a gharib hadith; we know it only through this route. Al-Khalil ibn Murrah is not considered strong by hadith scholars. Muhammad ibn Isma‘il said: “He is munkar al-hadith.”’
