حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ الدِّمَشْقِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَائِذُ اللَّهِ أَبُو إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلاَنِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " كَانَ مِنْ دُعَاءِ دَاوُدَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ وَالْعَمَلَ الَّذِي يُبَلِّغُنِي حُبَّكَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ حُبَّكَ أَحَبَّ إِلَىَّ مِنْ نَفْسِي وَأَهْلِي وَمِنَ الْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ " . قَالَ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا ذَكَرَ دَاوُدَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْهُ قَالَ " كَانَ أَعْبَدَ الْبَشَرِ " . قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ .

Abu Kurayb narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-Ansari, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Rabi‘ah al-Dimashqi; ‘A’id Allah, Abu Idris al-Khawlani, narrated to us, from Abu al-Darda’, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Among the supplications of Dawud was that he would say: “O Allah, I ask You for Your love, for the love of those who love You, and for the deed that will bring me to Your love. O Allah, make Your love dearer to me than myself, my family, and cold water.”’ He said: ‘When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned Dawud, he would speak about him and say: “He was the most devoted worshipper among humankind.”’ He said: ‘This is a hasan gharib hadith.’
