Ibn Abi ‘Umar narrated to us; Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A‘raj, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: ‘Allah has ninety-nine names; whoever comprehends them will enter Paradise.’ He said: ‘This hadith does not mention the names.’ He said: ‘This is a hasan sahih hadith.’ Abu al-Yaman narrated it from Shu‘ayb ibn Abi Hamzah, from Abu al-Zinad, without mentioning the names in it.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
قَالَ وَلَيْسَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ذِكْرُ الأَسْمَاءِ .
The Arabic explicitly notes that this version does not list the names and adds a comparison with Abu al-Yaman’s route; the English witness has only the prophetic wording.
Should these compiler notes be tracked as witness omissions?
