حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ وَرْدَانَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَىُّ الدُّعَاءِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ " سَلْ رَبَّكَ الْعَافِيَةَ وَالْمُعَافَاةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ " . ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ فِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّانِي فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَىُّ الدُّعَاءِ أَفْضَلُ فَقَالَ لَهُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ فِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّالِثِ فَقَالَ لَهُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ . قَالَ " فَإِذَا أُعْطِيتَ الْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَأُعْطِيتَهَا فِي الآخِرَةِ فَقَدْ أَفْلَحْتَ " . قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ إِنَّمَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ وَرْدَانَ .

Yusuf ibn ‘Isa narrated to us; al-Fadl ibn Musa narrated to us; Salamah ibn Wardan narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik, that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, ‘Messenger of Allah, which supplication is best?’ He replied, ‘Ask your Lord for well-being and soundness in this world and the Hereafter.’ The man came to him the next day and asked the same question, and the Prophet gave him the same answer. He came to him on the third day and received the same answer. The Prophet then said, ‘When you are granted well-being in this world and in the Hereafter, you have truly succeeded.’ He said: ‘This is a hasan gharib hadith through this route; we know it only from the report of Salamah ibn Wardan.’

قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ إِنَّمَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ وَرْدَانَ .
The Arabic adds al-Tirmidhi’s grade and says the report is known only through this route from Salamah ibn Wardan.
