Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Al-Hasan ibn ‘Arafah narrated to us; Isma‘il ibn ‘Ayyash narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn An‘um, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Glorifying Allah fills half the Scale; praise be to Allah fills it; and there is no veil between “There is no god but Allah” and Allah until it reaches Him.’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This is a gharib hadith through this route, and its chain is not strong. ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn An‘um is al-Ifriqi; Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Yahya ibn Ma‘in considered him weak. ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid is Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli.’

The Arabic states that the chain is not strong and identifies a narrator whom Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Yahya ibn Ma‘in considered weak; the English witness omits this evaluation.

Should al-Tirmidhi’s chain criticism and narrator identifications be retained with the witness?
