Muhammad ibn Hatim al-Mu’addib narrated to us; ‘Ali ibn Thabit narrated to us; Qays ibn al-Rabi‘ narrated to me—he was from Banu Asad—from al-Agharr ibn al-Sabbah, from Khalifah ibn Husayn, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, who said: The supplication the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) most often made on the evening of ‘Arafah at the place of standing was: ‘O Allah, to You belongs praise like that which You say, and better than what we say. O Allah, to You belong my prayer, my rites, my life, and my death; to You is my return, and to You, my Lord, belongs what I leave behind. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, the whispering of the breast, and the scattering of affairs. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what the wind brings.’ He said: ‘This is a gharib hadith through this route, and its chain is not strong.’

قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَلَيْسَ إِسْنَادُهُ بِالْقَوِيِّ .
Al-Tirmidhi calls the report gharib and states that its chain is not strong; the English witness omits this critical assessment.
Should the compiler’s chain assessment be tracked with the English witness?
