Muhammad ibn Hatim al-Maktab narrated to us; Abu Badr, Shuja‘ ibn al-Walid, narrated to us, from al-Ruhayl ibn Mu‘awiyah, the brother of Zuhayr ibn Mu‘awiyah, from al-Raqashi, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: When something distressed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would say: ‘O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek relief.’ Through this same chain, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Persist in calling upon “O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.”’ Abu ‘Isa said: ‘This is a gharib hadith. This report has also been narrated from Anas through another route.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • ‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ ‏.

The Arabic includes a gharib grade and says the report also comes through another route from Anas; the English witness omits this.

Should the compiler’s route note be tracked?
