Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us; Shu‘bah narrated to us, from ‘Amr ibn Murrah, who said: I heard Abu Wa’il say: I heard ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ud say: I asked him, ‘Did you hear it from ‘Abd Allah?’ He replied, ‘Yes,’ and attributed it to the Prophet: ‘No one has greater protective jealousy than Allah. For that reason, He has forbidden shameful deeds, both apparent and hidden. No one loves praise more than Allah, and for that reason He has praised Himself.’ He said: ‘This is a hasan sahih hadith through this route.’
